We maintain our paging system keeping in mind the mission of our communications system serving the health care needs of the Institution. Our paging terminal is a Unipage Model 80 system purchased in 1992. Our system consists of 10 (ten) transmitting sites strategically located to provide maximum coverage as well as redundancy. A problem with any transmitting site will cause us to suffer not more than a 20% loss of coverage. The system is designed to provide a maximum delay of 22 seconds once a page is entered. This statistical average is monitored by Radio Paging via computer every 5 minutes of the day. We have on call personnel available through the UAB Call Center at all times for system malfunctions. There are approximately 6,000 pagers on the UAB Radio Paging system serving the UAB community. Our activities are limited to the Institution by the nature of our FCC license.
